If you’ve been following One Park Place articles and blog entries – you already know about the spacious floor plans, spectacular amenities and incredible views afforded from within. And if you’ve really been following along you’ll know that the developer is offering a promotion wherein prospective buyers who make an acceptable offer and close on their new home by April 30th will receive six months paid HOA dues. This offer, combined with the benefits of FHA approval and a real estate property tax abatement in place until 2016, reduces the amount of property taxes owed by approximately 90 percent and represents a substantial, bottom-line benefit for homeowners.
BUT, did you know…
The BMA Tower, now known as One Park Place, designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill with steel frame construction and clad in a contrasting grid of deeply inset black glass and white marble. It opened in 1963 and was the first high-rise structure in Kansas City since the building of City Hall.[2]
It was designed by SOM project manager Bruce Graham, who later was lead architect for the John Hancock Center and the Willis Tower.
The BMA Building won an Architectural Award of Excellence from the American Institute of Steel Construction and a First Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects.
The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
Neighboring Penn Valley Park includes many amenities: an off-leash dog park, a skate park, nearly 2 miles of asphalt trail, tennis courts, picnic shelters, a playground, and lighted ball diamonds. On the grounds you’ll find the Off Broadway Theater and the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial.
The art found in the Park comes with rich history. Cyrus E. Dallin, of Boston and Paris, sculpted The Scout for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition in San Francisco where it won a Gold Medal. On its way back to Dallin’s Boston studio by train, The Scout was placed on temporary exhibit in Penn Valley Park. The statue was so popular that Kansas City residents raised $15,000 to buy it.
The Firefighters’ Fountain (located just to the east of One Park Place) is commemorates the City’s firefighters and memorializes those who have given their lives in the line of duty. The fountain’s sculpture was created by local sculptor Tom Corbin. The conceptual design was done by local artist Byron Gash.
